Your First Step Toward Relief
Get a Free Diagnostic Evaluation for Your Nerve Symptoms
Before we treat anything, we find out what's actually wrong. Every new patient at Peripheral Neuropathy Specialists starts with a completely free, no-obligation diagnostic evaluation.
Your evaluation uses several objective diagnostic tools working together: a Neurologic Multipoint Exam, Infrared Thermal Imaging, Transcutaneous Oxygen Measurement (tcpO2), and, when appropriate, a venous and vascular screening. Together, these tests give Dr. Mark A. Matey a clear, objective picture of what's causing your symptoms.
There's no cost and no obligation to start treatment. You'll walk away with real answers and a clear next step.

Considering an Evaluation?
Who This Evaluation Is For
If you're dealing with tingling, numbness, burning, or pain in your feet, this evaluation is for you. That includes patients who've already been told they have neuropathy by another doctor, patients who suspect something is wrong but haven't been formally diagnosed, and patients with diabetes who want to catch a problem early.
There's no minimum symptom severity required, and you don't need a referral. If you're unsure whether your symptoms are worth checking out, that uncertainty is exactly what this evaluation is designed to resolve.
What to Expect
What Your Free Evaluation Includes
Your evaluation combines several tools to build a complete, objective picture of your symptoms, rather than relying on any single test.
Neurologic Multipoint Exam
We start with a detailed conversation about your symptoms and history, using standardized tools like the LANSS Pain Scale and the McGill Pain Questionnaire to accurately characterize your pain and nerve involvement.
Infrared Thermal Imaging
Using thermal imaging technology, we capture real-time temperature variations across your skin. Because nerve and circulation problems often create subtle temperature differences that aren't visible to the naked eye, this imaging can reveal patterns that point toward a specific underlying cause.
Transcutaneous Oxygen Measurement (tcpO2)
This non-invasive test measures how well oxygen is reaching your skin at multiple points, since nerves that don't receive enough oxygen can't heal, regardless of what treatment they receive. This measurement helps confirm whether poor circulation is contributing to your symptoms.
If your results suggest a vascular contributor, we'll also recommend a venous and vascular screening to check for an underlying vein or artery problem before finalizing your treatment plan.
Why Multiple Tests Matter
Why We Use More Than One Diagnostic Tool
No single test tells the whole story when it comes to nerve pain. Relying on one tool, or worse, no formal testing at all, is how so many patients end up on a treatment protocol that never matched what was wrong.
By combining a detailed neurologic exam, thermal imaging, and oxygen perfusion measurement, and adding a vascular screening when warranted, we build a more complete picture than any single test could provide on its own. This kind of multi-point evaluation is standard practice in comprehensive wound care and neurovascular medicine, the same field Dr. Matey trained in while helping open the Baptist Medical Center Wound Care Institute, Northeast Florida's first hyperbaric oxygen therapy center for wound healing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. There's no cost and no obligation for your initial diagnostic evaluation, regardless of what we find or whether you decide to move forward with treatment. We believe you should know what's actually wrong before deciding what to do about it.
Yes. Every test used in your evaluation, including thermal imaging and oxygen perfusion measurement, is non-invasive, painless, and free of radiation. There's no recovery time needed, and you can resume normal activity immediately after your visit.
Testing for peripheral neuropathy typically involves a combination of a detailed symptom history, a physical exam, and objective tools that measure nerve function, circulation, and temperature patterns. At Peripheral Neuropathy Specialists, we use a Neurologic Multipoint Exam, Infrared Thermal Imaging, and Transcutaneous Oxygen Measurement (tcpO2) together, along with a vascular screening when appropriate.
Our Bartram Park and Atlantic Boulevard offices both offer free diagnostic evaluations, with no cost and no obligation to start treatment. It's the easiest way to find out what's actually causing your symptoms. We look forward to seeing you!
